This goes back to the Branford Marsalis youtube video where he rants about his students. Doggett is a representative of the happy-talk politics of agreement--if everybody just agreed with me, it would all be fine. Or as Marsalis said, as long as everybody keeps winking.... Well,
Lloyd, welcome to a world where a lot of people aren't winking anymore.
And one more thing...
Even if this were a protest organized by the opposition, that's what dems do ALL THE TIME! What kind of self-righteous pr*cks can't take what they encourage their supporters to dish out? (Answer: the ones who would seriously like to see one-party rule in this country).
In reading the first two comments, I wonder if they're anachronistic because that describes the Bush administration and his GOP minions during the previous eight years.
Referring to Doggett's meeting, the Constitution grants the right to "peaceably assemble." That right was violated by the protesters' behavior.
So, protest is unconstitutional? These are the exact tactics the left uses.
Hey--as a former leftie, I take umbrage at that comment. This is NO WHERE NEAR what lefties do. Lefties are WAAAAYYY more disruptive and violent than these people. No one pounded on the car, no one threw anything at the Congressman, there was no loud rhyming chant through a bullhorn (Sharpton).
If this fails the "peaceable assembly" test, then nothing the left has done for fifty years deserves Constitutional protection.
JJ Peaceably Assembly is subjected to the interpretation of the law. Let's look at this - how many citizens were arrested at this function? None - why - because freedom of speech is protected under the First Amendment. There were no threats that would cause public alarm; these were citizens voicing their opinions. Now let?s look at what is probably a hero of yours. Prof. Gates exits his house and yells profanities at a police offer with racial epitomes - that is considered Disorderly Conduct. I am sure you will disagree because you are in denial, and think you know and understand the law.
As far as Rep. Lloyd Doggett - POLITICAL SUICIDE - he has called his constituents a "Mob" - he has used every talking point that doesn?t epitomize the group that showed up, the Liberals in this country. As a police officer I have never been called to a demonstration involving persons to the right - it has always been the left, and it has always been violent - not in ANY of these protests throughout the country has anyone been hurt physically, or committed any crimes. Can you say the same about war demonstrations by your buddies? |
