It is time to throw W under the bus and find a real conservative to get behind.
I hate to break it to ya, but the Boy Wonder's polls have been declining steadily in every poll taken, including Fox News: "Today, 41 percent of voters approve and 51 percent disapprove of President Bush’s performance, which is the lowest job rating he has received in a FOX News poll. The president’s approval rating is down 4 percentage points from two weeks ago (45 percent, August 30-31), around the time the magnitude of Katrina’s damage was becoming clear. Before the hurricane, 47 percent approved and 44 percent disapproved (July 26-27)." It is becoming apparant to a majority of Americans that Bush is not, or has never been, a high achiever no matter what his propoganda machine says. His job approval ratings were poor prior to 9/11 and he used the national tragedy to cow both his political opponents and the media as a whole. Sooner or later you are going to have to realize that these people are not really conservatives, have created huge decits, increased spending, instituted social engineering programs and expanded government. Last but not least the evil Clinton had 75% approval ratings during his impeachment.
What's any of that got to do with the point I made in the post?
You site the Fox poll. Fine. How about the CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll (46%), or Rasmussen (one of the most accurate pollsters in 2004, at 47%). Of course none of this addresses the fact that the NYT/CBS poll did not take a very accurate sampling when it went 38%-28%. You can say much the same thing for the AP/Ipsos poll as well. Come on.
Tom,
I will give you the fact that the nyt poll may have used an inaccurate sampling. Fox News is the Bush Television Network and they have no reason to skew a poll against Bush and every reason to slant it in his favor. Even if you take your Rassmussen poll he is under 50% approval. I would love to see some real conservatives with real leadership abilities in positions of responsibility. At the end of the day the conservative movement would be better off throwing Bush under the bus.
In the Fox poll, they also surveyed more Dems than Repubs (it was less tilted than the NYT/CBS poll, but Dems still outnumbered Repubs by a 3% margin).
Look, I'm not arguing that Bush has approval ratings above 50% or anything like that. It's just that a 40% or a 41% or a 42% is a lot different than a 46% or a 47% -- and that's why the media emphasizes this stuff. The fact is that Bush got a majority of the popular vote less than one year ago in 2004 (when many polls had his approval numbers below 50%, and those were polls of registered voters, not like the majority of these recent polls, which poll all adults -- not an insignificant difference). Also, it's important to note that Bush's pulling a majority of the vote in 2004 is something that only four Dems have done since 1860 (seven times). This should not be overlooked. What I'm trying to say is that basing decisions on these recent polls is usually not the wisest course of action. |
