I am from Chicago and I take a great deal of offense at this. The idea that there is anyone that can claim to be 'a person of priviledge' is clear proof of the false reporting. Everyone knows Chicago is a working class city....
Are your sure this isn't an urban legend from Florida?
I, too, am from Chicago. Indeed, my family arrived there in the 1850s.
And generations of stuff like this is why I am from Chicago!
That's fucked up and not funny at all, considering this happens to minorities all the time.
What happens to minorities all the time? They are treated like complete idiots AND prove it?
What kind of moron believes invisible ink???
Tracy, it is absolutely true. The 42nd Precinct is my precinct and I heard about it when I went to vote. It's not an urban legend at all. It's the result of hiring untrained or deviously trained election judges by Committeeman David Fagus and Alderman Joe Moore.
Maybe it's a new form of vote fraud. Hope the action is being examined. Twenty blank ballots were open to manipulation - think about it!
Was it Obama judges messing with Clinton voters, or the other way around?
Yea right, these girls really "studied the issues" before voting. I find their assertion of a studious nature as dubious as the hoax itself.
Ha! One of my friends actually witnessed this when she went into vote. She thinks the judge tricked the voters on purpose, even though I tried to convince her that plenty of Chicago election judges really are that dumb.
Did your friend see this in the same Far North Side precinct, or in a different place?
I had just assumed it was the same polling place, but in Sweeney's article it says "Far North Side", and my friend's never lived so much as a block north of Fullerton. To me, that implies that it happened in two different polling places. I'm going to try and squeeze the Ward and Precinct number out of her-- though it's not entirely unbelievable to me that multiple CBE judges were dumb enough.
I've done judge training recently enough to know the procedure for the fancy new "connect the arrow" ballot-- I was told that the ballots require a very specific type of pen provided by the CBE for the ballot machine to be able to read them. NOT AN INVISIBLE INK PEN, but a special pen that a judge is responsible for giving you. I think that's the obvious source of the alleged confusion.
The two reports cited here are talking about the 49th Ward.
See if you can find out where your friend voted...
No that is not what happens in New Orleans. What was a regular occurence pre-Katrina was that buses show up in certain neighborhoods where each voter who boards the vehicle gets a list of who to vote for a free box lunch and a certified check for $20. All of this is legal by state and federal law.
Nagin was re-elected in the runoff because his opponents father was a true champion in electioneering (also a former Carter Cabinet member). Katrina made the lists of voters in certain neighborhoods useless. If you look at the precinct map of the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections you will see the exact precincts where this is prevalent in New Orleans and the former plantation area. It is not a racial thing but a class thing. In the precincts won by Gore and Kerry, in Louisiana, electioneering is practiced to the limit.
sounds to me that it's neither a race or a class thing, but a democrat thing.
Anybody in the United States of America that would belive they can vote with invisible ink should never be allowed to vote. This story is extremely disturbing.
Maxfield's Razor
Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity, except in Chicago.
Am I the only one disturbed by the fact they are able to match the voters up with the ballots?
How come when things like this happen in Republican controlled areas they are attributed to corruption; but when they happen in Democrat controlled areas, like Chicago, they're attributed to stupidity?
Look at all the conspiracy stories that came out of the 2000 and 2004 elections. There's a lot less evidence of corruption in those elections than there is in this one, but the present problems are due to "stupidity" instead of malice?
an excellent question.
to answer it, i think we have to first interrogate whether there have in fact been any actual identifiable cases of this sort of thing by republicans. i can't think of any. i'm familiar with some rather sketchy allegations, such as the perrenial "misleading flier" which always seems to be "discovered" by a democrat in a majority black district prior to an election. i'm also familiar with the documented instance a few years back when the dnc handbook distributed to pollwatchers instructed volunteers to invent instances of voting irregularities. i'm also familiar with the raft of fairly penny-ante vote-fraud in, for instance, east st. louis, and with pay-per-registration schemes set up by progressive community orgs which have resulted in thousands of fraudulent registrations. all of these implicate democrats. finally, i'm familiar with grand conspiracies about the evil republican octopus reversing national elections with the flick of a switch. i think the reason that, as you put it, stories of democrat vote fraud are marked as benign incompetence while stories of republican vote fraud are marked as deliberate malignancy, is because the actual documented instances of democrat vote fraud - though telling of the character of democratics - are barely consequential, while the stories of republican vote fraud are concocted by democratics with the aim of portraying republicans as conniving and malign.
Why do Chicago residents bother voting. Dems have been rigging those elections since Mayor Daley fixed the JFK election. Whats even worse is you all know it and act like you don't..
as a conservative fed up with the lucrative and corrosive industry of alleging that republicans controll the final tallies nationwide through manipulation of electronic voting machines, i would have loved to have pointed to chicago's adoption of sequoia systems and said something rediculous like, "a-hah! chicago's progressive mafia is using hugo chavez's machines to preserve their power!"
but working as an election judge in some precincts where i would have expected to see some funny business, i've witnessed none. i've seen a rocky implementation process of a new system. cook county commissioner david orr, a north side progressive who, if i had to guess, probably voted obama, is an earnest public servant who has done much i think to make voting better in chicago. he's gained my trust. chicago however remains a city riven with radical progressive cults, union thugs and democrat party machine crap, and so there's no end to what some student activist assigned to a polling place, for instance, is willing to do to undo "mere bougois democracy".
i've worked every election since 2006 and i can confirm that that red thing isn't even part of the equipment, so this was deliberate.
i can also confirm that there isn't an "underprivleged" person within a mile of that precinct. and while it's intriguing to ask whether it was obama judges punking clinton voters or the other way around, the number of invalidated ballots, around 20, seems to me to be about how many republican ballots i handed out in total during the last primary election i worked.
I also live in Chicago. I remember an investigative report in a local paper where Dan Lipinski Sr.'s Washington staff were all registered to vote here. Their address was a tavern.
Maybe what's most disturbing in the video is that the newscasters refer to this as "a lighter moment".
