Is there any surer way to judge the political stone-deafness of an idea than when Sen. John Kerry endorses it?
The Hillreports that Sen. Dick Durbin favors the 'Fairness Doctrine' too.
"It’s time to reinstitute the Fairness Doctrine," said Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.). "I have this old-fashioned attitude that when Americans hear both sides of the story, they’re in a better position to make a decision."
There you have it: John Kerry is for it and Dick Durbin thinks it represents an "old-fashioned attitude" when bureaucrats determine what constitutes 'fairness.'
What's really interesting is that conservative radio hosts usually extend invitations to lefty politicians and spokespeeps to come on the air and discuss specific issues. The problem is they often decline because they can't take the heat. They're not used to being challenged (by the MSM). A good example is Hugh Hewitt's show.
No, what they want is to force broadcasters to provide free airtime to lefty bloviators who can't attract their own audience; it then becomes uneconomical for stations to carry the conservative shows.
So why can't the lefties attract an audience? Remember the joke about the lab rats and how there are some things even a rat won't do? Well apparently even for the Bush Deranged there's a limit and for the rest, the Air America crowd is just too depressing.
