Maybe ole Bill could have come up with the 20 virgins (goats) for UBL so he would not have to wait for the here after!
Making things even more fun. Michael Yon's assessment of why we don't 'get' what is really going on in Iraq amounts to (paraphrasins), "the military telling imbedded reporters to sit on things that are hardly secret to the people they are trying to keep it from, but which the non-imbedded press doesn't know about, only to days after the fact put out simple, virtually useless reports to the mass media, without telling the imbedded people they are doing so. The result, the mass media tries to 'interpret' events with almost no context or actual information." One example he gives is an inaccurate and barely recognizable page six news paper article on a letter to Al Queda from a high ranking official in Mosul, which states that the network there is disintegrating. First it ended up on page 6, and second, it didn't even come close to reporting the facts of the situation.
http://michaelyon.blogspot.com/2005/08/proximity-delays.html However, the good news is that the DOD finally (after more than two years) figured out that 'maybe' it would be useful to report on things like reconstruction and the like....: http://www.defenselink.mil/news/Aug2005/20050820_2493.html If we ever do withdraw, it will be the first war in history (I don't think Vietnam is even close to this screwed up), that we lost because of failing to report what was actually happening, instead of just letting people invent their own analysis of only 5% of the actual information.
Next terror attack on our soil? Lawyer concentration camps. We could make these camps ergonomic.
Hi Tom
Is this what you meant about your Shakespeare reference:"The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers". King Henry VI Quote (Act IV, Scene II) ? That's what I like about the web:chock full of knowledge!
You should read Mrs. Breitweisters post on this Abel danger story at Huffpo, maybe you will actually know what you are talking about here. The fact is, no one can report whats going on in Iraq because the reporters cannot leave their friggin hotel or the Green zone, they will be SLAUGHTERED. Get a clue for effs sake.
What are you talking about? The post was about what happened regarding Osama bin Ladin in the 1990s, not about Able Danger.
Now, since you were writing about having a clue, I wonder if I might ask you a question ...
Funny that you didn't mention this quote from the CIA analyst in the very same piece:
The war in Iraq has broken the back of our counterterrorism effort. I‘m not an expert on the threat posed by Saddam Hussein, but the invasion of Iraq has made sure this war will last decades ahead and it has transferred bin Laden and al Qaeda from being man and an organization into being a philosophy and a movement. We‘ve really made sure that the war against us is going to be a long and very bloody one. Iraq was an absolutely disastrous decision.
Nor did I quote Scheuer when he said that they had "eight to 10 chances to capture or kill Osama bin Laden in 1998 and 1999. And the government on all occasions decided that the information was not good enough to act."
The reason I didn't use either quote? Scheuer has said both things before, but we haven't heard that which I highlighted in this post.... |
