Buckle Down ... and Change Those Light Bulbs!

In a question and answer session with the Rocky Mountain News' Todd Hartman, global warming activist Laurie David answers the question, "What changes have you made in your own life?"

I don't believe everyone has to do everything. I don't do everything. It's about everyone doing something. I have changed as many lightbulbs as I could to (higher efficiency) bulbs. I started a new idling rule at the school carpool lane (cars dropping and picking up kids can't idle their engines more than 30 seconds). I bring a garment bag to the dry cleaners (instead of having the dry cleaners wrap her clothes in petroleum-based plastic). I drive a hybrid.

So there you have it ... change some light bulbs, make some rules for idling cars at school carpool lanes, don't get new dry cleaning bags, drive a hybrid car, and you too can fly on private jets, own multiple homes, and lecture everyone to "choose everything we have to do" to avoid this crisis!

Are you kidding? Changing to those halogen, energy-efficient light bulbs is a major sacrifice for the planet. The light those things throw off is hideous; it's like bringing your blue-green office lighting into the sanctity of your own home.

Yet another reason to keep dillatants out of the limelight. She should call up Ed Begley Jr and get him to hook her up with composting toilets, solar cells and his completely energy neutral home. I doubt she has the guts to make the sacrifices required to walk the walk.
