A Muslim author exhibits a huge double standard. What else is new?
Muslims are, by a large distance, the most hypocritical people in the world.
It appears that the phrase you quote is no longer present in the linked piece.
#1 Jumper - please take bigotry somewhere else.
I doubt that it is true, and I highly doubt that you can know it to be true even if it were. As absurd as saying that Jews are by far the most money grubbing people on earth.
Hal,
There is nothing bigoted about stating a demonstrable fact that is implied in the original post already. And where is your condemnation of the bias of the author? Methinks you are the bigoted one.
Wow, troglodytes like you are either 1. incredibly stupid or 2. a liberal trolling to give conservatives a bad name. I'm not sure which.
For the record - I agree that there are double standards at work here, but that is a given.
There is more than one way to get into the POW status, although most of us are used to ( http://www.genevaconventions.org/ )GC III, Article 4, for standard conflicts, there is also Article 5: "Art. 5. The present Convention shall apply to the persons referred to in Article 4 from the time they fall into the power of the enemy and until their final release and repatriation.
Should any doubt arise as to whether persons, having committed a belligerent act and having fallen into the hands of the enemy, belong to any of the categories enumerated in Article 4, such persons shall enjoy the protection of the present Convention until such time as their status has been determined by a competent tribunal." Now, as Iran is alleging that these are spies, although they were in uniform so no doubt should be around, they obviously have some problems with the status of the Brits. Therefore the full benefit of Article 5 is in force, so that they are provided the full POW benefits until they have a tribunal, and are to have 2-3 weeks to prepare for said tribunal and to have consul that is competent. Iran is claiming belligerent act in the form of espionage and these individuals in uniform are to be provided full POW coverage until such time as their status can be determined. If Iran had asked via civil authority means for the ship to move out of its waters, it would have shown understanding and leeway to pure commercial shipping. It did not, claims espionage which is a belligerent act and so now does need to act in a civilized way towards those that have a status in doubt. That is just my reading of the GC, others may differ.
I don't think it's bigoted at all to say that Muslims, as a group, are more hypocritical than others. It's a simple observation about their culture that is largely true.
Double standards are a very big deal in the Middle East, because it shows that the beneficiaries of the double standard are powerful and thus should be respected. So there is a double standard between men and women, Arab and not-Arab, Muslim and non-Muslim. That's why Saddam could gas the Kurds and the genocide in Darfur (perpetrated by Arabs against blacks) is allowed to continue without a peep from the Arab league. That's why Christian Arabs in Egypt can be mistreated without a peep from the Arab league. That's why women can be mistreated across the Muslim world and even by Muslims in our own countries. It's why they fight so hard to make sure there is a double standard between Jews and Palestinians. It's why they cry victimhood at the first sign of a slight, but do nothing to rein in genocidal terrorist Muslims such as in Thailand, where Buddhists are being systematically driven out, exterminated if they won't leave. Yes, Muslims are hypocrites, Islamic culture encourages hypocrisy, and we all pay the price for it! It's not bigoted to say so, it's necessary.
Islam means you get to take but never have to give. Words mean nothing to a Muslim. Nothing! Not here. Not in Arabia. Not in Malaysia. Not in Southeast Asia. Nothing! A culture built on theft and lies aided by fools and cowards in the West.
Maybe, if nothing else, the disgrace suffered by the Cornwall will give the British people the courage to demand a navy as courageous as the sailors who serve in it. If not, then the Cornwall’s fate will be an apt metaphor for the Royal Navy.
Islam means peace in the same sense that one would create a desert and call it peace.
If the British captives are not prisoners of war, then what are they? Hostages? Kidnappees? It seems to me that this argument merely puts Iran in a worse light than ever, not easily done.
Wasn't the argument that we weren't treating "everyone" like we would want them to treat us? So how come Iran is all of a sudden not required to treat the Brits in this manner?
