I can't believe that I'm coming to the defense of a scotch soaked sot like Andrew Sulivan but what we have here is a clear case of humor. One of the most basic foundations of humor is the juxtaposition of wildly unmatched items. It is usually done in sets of 3. Just because I say that my 3 favorite kinds of women are blonds, brunettes and palaminos doesn't mean that I am contemplating a romantic interlude with a pony. it is the absurdity of the third member of the triplet that tweaks our brain. We are thinking "blonds, brunettes and redheads" and what we get is blonds, brunettes and horses. What the limey nutbox was trying to do is say is "the three greatest technological advances of the 21st century are the high definition tv, the ipod and the 5 bladed disposable razor with a 6th blade on the back for mowing your earhair and a lubricating strip for unsurpassed comfort (insert audience guffawing at funny joke). The problem is that Mr. Sulivan is such a logicly challenged putz that his clumsy attempt at humor, taken in the context of his recent rantings, drops from his pen like a turd in a punchbowl. I can see that you may have mistaken his failed funny as a serious policy statement but he was just trying to be funny.
