Wait Until No One's Paying Attention...

I thought this was interesting:

The New York Times' Carl Hulse reports: (emphasis added)

During four decades of Democratic rule ending in 1994, committee chairmen amassed almost unchallenged authority, often becoming more feared and influential than the elected leadership. They were nearly impossible to budge from their perches, and the concept of term limits was unimaginable. In a move that caught some new Democratic chairmen by surprise, House rules pushed through by the Democrats this week retained the six-year limit on chairmen imposed by Republicans, but the leadership reassured lawmakers they would revisit the restrictions when there was less attention focused on the dawn of the Democratic era.

So, ya know, when no one's payin' attention, we'll change the term-limit rule back to the way it was when we last ran da House...

Gonna be tough not to say "I told you so" to all the conservatives who on Nov 7 protest-voted (or non-voted) against the insufficiently-pure GOP.

As a conservative who voted conservative in spite of being infuriated with the GOP, I can't imagine any fair-weather supposed conservatives being happy with the unadulterated nonsense being perpetrated in Congress now.

I not only want the U.S. out of the U.N. and vice versa, I want Congress out of the U.S.!

It's so true that democracy is the worst form of government except for all the others.

Think about this: The committee chairmanship gerontocracy of the democrat party will, in 6 years, be (de)composed of John Dingell-then in his late 80s, John Conyers-then in his late 70s, and various other relics of the hereditary peerage of the US House. I look forward to sweeping away the ossified values and decayed morals of this group with a brrom made of vigorous 60 to 70 year old "new" boys and girls. The Dingell seat, for example, has been held for 73(!) years by the Johns Dingell, father and son, and in the "on deck" circle is (relatively) young, only 55 now, Debbie Dingell. I'm sure there's an adult Conyers grandchild also ready to step up.

Why don't we just forego elections.

This could be the shortest lived "Democratic era" in history. This two-year blip may be all that's necessary to convince most reasonable Americans that the dems are worst than the GOP, and that's the binary choice we are faced with. The dems are really overstretching their concept of a "mandate."

I wouldn't be quite so surprised if they were at least paying attention to the tradition of trying not to be so obviously shameless.

I guess now that the MSM has been fully-outed and the sky hasn't fallen, they have realized that their constituency is paying zero attention, so it doesn't really matter anymore. Back up the trucks, and load 'em up!

I'm going to go one more on the cynicism scale. The Democrats drop the term limit when nobody's looking ... and the Republicans, when they regain a congressional majority, will feel no need to reinstate it.

And of course as Drudge is reporting the new Congress's 5 day work week is.........ah, 'delayed' for a week or two.

This coming Monday night is BCS football, gotta be off all day for that, and of course the following Monday is Martin Luther King Day, gotta be off all day for that.

On the brighter side that's at least 2 less days they're in there screwing things up.

You're complaining that instead of immediately increasing the work week by 50% + the new congress will temporarily increase by ONLY 35%. One of the non-work days mentioned is a federal holiday.

Of course this is an excellant reason to return to the folks who thought it was OK to collect OUR MONEY to work less than 20 hrs per week.

John Mollohan is going to have to explain how he went from between $116-
315.000 earned income in 99, to between
$6.5 And 25.7 Million in 05 while working on the House Ethics committee,
if they want to go down in history as the "most ethical" ever, they should
follow the Republicans lead and impose
the rule on stepping down while under
investagation. I was sick when they took
over but I dont think they'll be abel cover everyones butts for very
much longer.

Well, Mollohan is now the chair of the committee or sub-committee that controls the FBI budget, and who is investigating him? I'm not convinced they'll even get Jefferson.

Yeah, that flat field thing looks good to me. The deficit, reasons for war, and soldiers' families - yeah those are things we've never given any thought to. I'm sure we'll be completely outclassed there.
