More evidence that we need to make English America's official language. Maybe then our politicians will start speaking it.
This raises the question of how exactly she was elected House minority leader. Was everyone else out to lunch, or are all Democrats more dim witted than she is?
Great question Harry. The answer, unfortunately, becomes very clear when you read or listen to the psychobabble from Howard Dean or Harry Reid or Dianne Fienstein or Barbara Boxer or . . . fill in the blank.
She is as good as it gets. Scary isn't it? This is the leadership of our Republic - whether you voted for them or not.
So this is what 'Stream of Unconciousness' means. Sounds like something Norm Crosby would say.
Her last paragraph, I confess, I read it three times over, boggles the mind. People have been committed to institutions while making more sense.
I will continue my practice of bringing my own drinking water when I visit California. Advise others to do so as well.
Its a little confusing, but her main point is that republicans will stay on message ("a microphone is one the table"), while democrats are all over the map. Here statements there are in different "voices" of various fraqctured democrats arguing with her.
It doesn't read well as a transcript, but it makes sense if you hear it in your head. I'm no fan of Pelosi, but I think she's stating something clearly (just something that doesn't transcribe well)
After reading that, I think I had a net knowledge loss. I know less than I did when I started.
George Bush has a lot of faults, but at least his thought processes seem sound. Pelosi's is just.......awry.
Pelosi should be given what Homer Simpson once got: The Award for "Outstanding Achievement in the Field of Excellence".
To elucidate
Let me just say this and you’ll understand. If I said, “a microphone is on the table is the message,” 10 Republicans around the table would say "a microphone is on the table, a microphone is on the table, a microphone is on the table." Ten Democrats around the table would say "a microphone is on the table, it’s next to a glass, there’s all these people sitting around, it’s in a room with a chandelier, there are windows in the room" [I'd say to those democrats] Now why are you doing that? Just say what we’re going to say! Just say it! This is what we want them to know! [those democrats would respond to me] "But I think if I said it that way, they would understand it better, there’d be more context" [But what the democrats need to understand about communication is that They [a voter], have this much time [very little time] for us -- you got to get in before the window closes. "The microphone is on the table!" [is what we need to all say]
So while there may or might be "a microphone is on the table," there most certainly is a moron in the House.
The only thing dumber than Congress-chickette Pelosi is defending her.
It would be a mistake to pass off the House Dem leader's comments to a congenial audience as mere rambling. By Marin standards, this is lucid stuff. She tapdances beautifully, and where she taps reveals the holes in the Dems' stage.
Back in the pre-Reagan days before Keynesian economics had been discredited, the Dems had a glittering stage. They felt they held the high ground on the issues of war, race and family, and they were confident in their greater sophistication and worldliness. All gone! Well, apart from one little reference to the start of the Iraq war being public record. With the loss of Keynesian economics, gone is the Dem rationale for big government central planning. Many lights in the party, notably Gore, are turning to climate issues to provide the basis for elite governance. But note that the House leader, the one closest to the pragmatics of political give and take, makes no mention of such initiatives. What support remains for their tiny dancer? One spar is carping about gas prices... when we know that the price was never higher in constant dollars than under Carter and that the Dems have mused openly and fondly about higher gas prices making us all greener and more virtuous. Another plank is tax spite, rich vs. poor, reduced to a caricature and devoid of economic argument. Finally, there is the tar brush of corruption, but notice that the comments are from a few weeks ago. She ends with a bunch of code words about how leading Democrats is like herding cats and wishing they had their message and funding together as well as the right does. This is where she rambles, to cover the fact that intellectual vigor is gone from her party. The right has it. We simply need to replace a bunch of old-timer politicians who've spent the bulk of their careers in awe of the old Democrat stage of yore.
Maybe if Pelosi were able to move her lips, she might be understood better.
Based on her...speech...we can now expect that Nancy Pelosi may very well be the only person in America who can answer the age old question, "What's the frequency, Kenneth?"
If only there were video and audio of this monumental event in the annals of political speech.
Geez Miss America has her facts wrong again—as usual. There was a Democratic controlled House and Senate in the 70’s and most of the 80’s. They are the ones that were responsible for the high taxes, double digit inflation, double digit unemployement and the double digit interest rates. It took Ronald Reagan to lower all of them.
As for talk radio, this came to being in the late 80’s
Pelosi's first name should now be Brooke. She just keeps babbling and babbling and babbling.
After reading that transcript I feel numb, I think it's given me a Pelosibotomy! I can't feel my frontal lobes any more ... and Kos' Kids are like ... my kids.
Just kidding, but if Pelosi, Dean, and "Drive 55" Hillary are all the Democrats have to offer ... but wait ... who do the Repulicans have to offer ... I favor Tom Coburn for President in '08!
Yep. She sounds like a co-author of the Rangel-Pelosi crack cocaine penalty reduction bill, allright.
