Begala has obviously forgotten the fact that the number of attacks against American interests continues to be higher under Clinton than under the present adminstration. In addition, a majority of time spent planning for the 9/11 attack fell under his watch.
Further, I cannot comprehend how Republican tax cuts kill children when Democrats encourage abortions as a means for saving children from being born to unto abject poverty? Anyway, sounds like Begala has a problem with spreading his own wealth even with his own children. Like "my children won't have to pay taxes on the money they inherit" is a bad idea.
Begala is basically correct. Repubs HAVE done a p***poor job, before and after 9-11. Osama determined to strike in US? Time for a record-length vacation!!! Don't like what an investigation might turn up? Oppose it! Opportunity to take action after 9-11? Let's use it as pretext to do what we laid out in the Project for a New American Century (PNAC) documents: invade Iraq! Don't like what war costs? Pass on the costs to the next generation! Don't like how many troops are needed? Make up a new reality, and fire all who speak the truth!
Can't fire all who speak the truth? Punish him by outing his CIA-agent wife! It goes on and on and on... and it's only a matter of time before those areas STILL not addressed for security, because the money was spent on pork instead of real risk management. And yes, they are still spending billions on Star Wars. Brain-dead, only reacting to pork possibilities... Good for Begala for speaking up.
"Begala is basically correct?"
I think your response speaks volumes about the state of the Democratic Party today...
Tom, I'm not a member of the Dem Party. But that no one here can begin to address the real heart of Begala's comments says volumes about the Repub Party.
After years of one-party rule, we can say it: Republicans now stand for endless deficit spending, Enron-style accounting, inadequate defense planning, incompetent leadership by civilians over the military, increased secrecy in govt, increased govt powers over individuals, increased size of govt. War profiteering. Falsifying scientific documents for political purposes. And transfer of public wealth and resources to private individuals. Doing less with more. It's the Republican way.
I find your points unpersuasive.
You may or may not be a Dem, but the points in both your comments are straight out of the DNC's "talking points." What I should have written is that your comments speak volumes about the American (and for that matter, the Western) Left. The "real heart" of Begala's comments is simply ridiculous rhetorical excess. Begala's notion that "Republicans are trying kill us" is just plain silly. Let me address one element of your latest comment, which in my view speaks to where you are coming from. You write about "Years of one party rule" under the Repubs. How about a little historical perspective? My goodness, between 1932 and 2000, the Dems controlled the House for 58 out of 68 years, the Senate for 52 out of 68 years, the White House for 40 out of 68 years, and all three concurrently for 32 out 68. For comparison's sake, the Repubs held all three concurrently for 2 years during this period. From 2000-05, the Repubs have held the White House, the House, and the Senate concurrently for about three years. I assume you know this, but perhaps you don't -- which might add perspective to your use of the "Bush took a long vacation before 9-11" meme; the "they opposed an investigation" meme; the "Project for a New American Century proves the invasion was always in the works" meme; the "Republicans now stand for endless deficit spending, "Enron-style accounting," "inadequate defense planning," "incompetent leadership by civilians over the military," increased secrecy in govt," "increased govt powers over individuals," and "increased size of govt" memes. I think you lack an awful lot of historical perspective, frankly....
"ridiculous rhetorical excess"
You're joking, right? Because that's quite funny. And you speak of historical perspective??? Remember ANY of these gems from the right? Feminazis Hitlery Clinton, lesbian Rove: liberals intend to aid our enemies Clinton is a child-molesting wife-raping drug addict who murdered... US should annhilate all Muslims in the world (can be found on many rightwing sites any day) ------------------- Those are just a few examples of rightwing rhetorical excess. I'm sure you could add more. Leftists can't play this game nearly as well as the right wing. Remember that Limbaugh's feminazi comments and much more are subsidized by tax dollars for distribution to our armed forces.
I don't deny that there is enough ridiculous rhetorical excess to go around on both of the parties' fringes.
The difference is where the crazy comments come from. Compare the rhetorical excesses of high-ranking Democratic Party and elected government officials to those made by their Republican counterparts any day of the week. It's not even a contest as to which party's officials have lost control of their tongues (or their minds)... Perhaps you'd like to read the piece I linked to within the original post. It's titled, "The Sandbox Left is Killing the Democratic Party."
Feminazis applies to followers of Margaret Sanger and her racist "exterminate all blacks, as well as, all poor in order to create the perfect utopian society" Planned Parenthood while having the power to castrate males since 1973.
Perhaps the use of the word 'Feminazi' is crazy however if one examines it's origins one will find this word appropriately describes such followers. By the way, the black community does not call Planned Parenthood "The Klan in the Hood" for nothing.
For starters...leave it to a bunch of right-wingers to scrape the bottom of the barrel to find something to criticize. You can't find enough to talk about so you LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE LIE. (Am i getting my point across).. You took Paul's quote completely out of context and took a linguistic convenience and made it fit your narrow ideology. I know, I was at the conference. All of us leftist college students have something in common that you right wing bigots don't have, a desire to question, learn, and be educated. You attack intellectualism as if it is something to be villified. Heaven forbid we know more than you! ANYWAYS, that was a bit of a tangent, but if you want to see Begala's response to your asinine, deceitful, and untrue statements about Begala's speech go to campusprogress.org.
