Sen. Kerry Calls for Filibuster of Alito

"Sen. John Kerry has decided to support a filibuster to block the nomination of Judge Samuel Alito to the Supreme Court," reports CNN, which has a story that continues:
Kerry, in Davos, Switzerland, to attend the World Economic Forum, was marshaling support in phone calls during the day, Henry said.

He announced his decision Wednesday to a group of Democratic senators, urging they join him, Henry said. Kerry also has the support of his fellow Massachusetts senator, Democrat Edward Kennedy.
The absolute tone-deafness of this decision by Kerry couldn't be better for the GOP if it was drawn up in a Republican strategy meeting:
First Republican: I know! Let's have Kerry decide to filibuster Alito ... we'll have him call fellow senators to rally support ... he'll make the calls from ... from ... from Switzerland ... Yeah, yeah ... he'll tell them he has Ted Kennedy's support ... and then he'll leak it to the press....

Second Republican: It'll never happen ... nobody's that stupid.

First Republican: Yeah ... you're right. What was I thinking? Nobody could be that dumb....

He's trying to have it both ways - he wants to satisfy the Angry Left by pounding his chest, but he did it precisely when it wouldn't matter. This shows him to be more irrelevant (ala NY Times editorial page) than tone deaf.

Well John Kerry is just doing the bidding of his new constituancy, DailyKos.

I'd look for him to vote for Alito, before he votes against him, or something to that effect.

I am surprised he could take time out from his ski trip or heiress hunt, or whatever reason he is in Switzerland.I am REALLY tired of this guy....
