WalMart already has a store in our growing city of Tracy, CA.
Still, small businessowners and others are now gearing up to oppose any more expansion even on its present site. My wonder is why just WalMart? What about the other bigbox stores? The city has new malls, big and small, and thus also have Target, Home Depot, JC Penney, etc. These also sell similar items many coming from China, too. To follow the logic of the endangered small town business owners, why not them, too?
Ever work at a small town business? I have. No health insurance, no paid vacations, VERY low wages and definitely no overtime. And no future. Management jobs go to the adult children of the owners. So what makes this something to be protected, at such a great cost to the community?
Just asking. Nitro Nora
Ha I love Wal-Mart, and I love how it exposes such irrationality and stupidity in snobs. A person's view of Wal-Mart is one of the quickest ways of gauging whether they possess the intelligence and analytical ability to think seriously about Economic issues.
I'm sure Chicagoans are pleased to have local hacks protect them from having the free choice of shopping at Wal-Mart or not, whichever they please; and from the free choice of whether to work at Wal-Mart or not, whichever they please.
Nitro Nora,
What is the great cost to the community? The people get good products at good prices and they have jobs that pay above the minimum. Walmart has all kinds of health insurance plans. If the people don't take them, you are going to force the company to make them take the plans or else the state will make them pay for it? If you want the insurance, your option to sign up. The last I saw 83% of the Walmart employees have insurance with the company which is higher than the national average of 60%. Sounds to me like you have problems with your local companies and you are trying to tar Walmart with the problem. Check what you are talking about and then get back to us. After all Walmart executives almost all started in the company. One of the commenters on another blog mentioned that one of the highest financial execs at Walmart started as a cart pusher. You have problems that you need to address such as get the info before you call people names.
Hey dick,
You need to work on your comprehension skills. I read that same paragraph and read them defending Wal-Mart and pooh-poohing the small town small business. Regards, |
