Bin Laden Warns of Attacks, Offers Truce

I guess this "offer" was made from a position of strength...

From AP:

Al-Jazeera aired an audiotape purportedly from Osama bin Laden on Thursday, saying al-Qaida is making preparations for attacks in the United States but offering a truce to rebuild Iraq and Afghanistan. The voice on the tape said heightened security measures in the United States are not the reason there have been no attacks there since the Sept. 11, 2001, suicide hijackings.

Instead, the reason is "because there are operations that need preparations, and you will see them," he said.

Update: I sure hope Osama was in comfort when he made his announcement.

To be fair to the AP, the photo is from 1998 - and that is stated in the caption. The caption should have been reworded, but keep in mind that if Michelle Malkin or others had read that caption in April 1998, then no one would have bothered pointing out this flaw. The caption was probably trying to effect a past-time contextual reference, which of course appears naively anachronistic in the present.

Point taken. But the quibble wasn't with the photo, it was with the caption.

I think we can all agree that referring today to bin Laden as a "dissident" is sloppy, at best.
