Update III: After listening to eight years of cries and lectures of: 'You aren't telling us the truth,' how does Napolitano's statement help the country?
I remember watching MSNBC during the 2008 inaugural, and seeing Democratic political consultant Chris Kofinis summing up President Obama's inaugural speech thusly: "I'm gonna tell you the truth," and went on to argue that Obama's speech was a rebuke of 'the last eight years' -- of presumably 'not telling us the truth.'
Napolitano's comment doesn't quite live up to that spirit...
The System worked, give me a break will you? Except for the ineptitude of the terrorist, a plane full of innocent people would have been blown up. The DHS Secretary is way in over her head on National Security issues and was another of those incompetents appointed by Barack Obama. There is one key issue at play here, that being our government placing the rights of a few over the safety of many. Intelligence information was already held on this guy. Because of the political correct approach of not profiling, especially minorities, nothing was done. As such, he didn't make it to the Watch List for no flies and was even issued a Visa. It will no doubt take another major disaster or two for the fools in Washington D. C. to develop a backbone.
This non-military, police-oriented approach to counter-terror, with all its emphasis on first-responders, etc, does not make me feel safe at all. Our current leaders seem to think the system works if we avoid racial profiling, if we draw Casper-the-friendly-ghost diagrams around all the victims on the pavement, and we read all the suspects their Miranda rights.
