More deep thinking from the letters-to-the-editor section of the
Austin American-Statesman:
Slavery of our time
As a little boy, I could not grasp why the South felt that slavery was not an abomination until I realized that it was about money. Now we look back at slavery and agree that all men have the right to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."
Is health care any different? It's still about the money. If we truly believe in those precious words from our founding fathers, then health care is a right, not a privilege.
Decades from now, we will wonder why we even had a debate about the concept of health care for all - just like we wonder why we had to flight to end slavery.
